This just in!
After over a decade of being impossible to find (and when found they were fetching collector’s prices) Chunklet Industries is scheduled to reissue both of The Olivia Tremor Control’s classic two double-album full lengths (Music from the Unrealized Film Script: Dusk At Cubist Castle and Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One) this October. Lest ye think these are two barebones reissues, nothing could be further from the truth. Original art has been rescanned and retouched. Both albums come housed in sturdy deluxe Stoughton tip-in jackets. And for the first time since its original release, Black Foliage has been remastered from the original tapes!

In addition to the vinyl and artwork, the band sifted through their archives to give fans over three hours of rare, hard-to-find or previously unreleased material in a 320kps download card. Drone. Tape loops. Live tracks. And finally, for the first time, all of the rare import b-sides and compilation tracks that came out in the 90’s are in one place. The Dusk bonus material features the bonus CD that was included with initial copies of the record when it came out in ‘96.

Revien, made up of three members of the exquisitely skilled Georgia Guitar Quartet, will be playing at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hendershot’s. Two guitars, electronics and cello, making Arvo Part and Vivaldi and Duke Ellington and Radiohead sound as gorgeous as you’ve ever heard them. I’m biased, but I still think you’ll agree.

As he has each year, Dan Nettles heads up the house band for the Flagpole Athens Music Awards. In his other noteworthy occupations, he fronts the excellent, revolving cast of Kenosha Kid, which has members here and overseas, and he oversees Nuci’s Space Camp Amped during the summers, an incredible program that fosters youngsters into bands with guidance and leadership from some of the best musicians in town.

Josh McKay of Abandon the Earth Mission, who won the Flagpole Athens Music Award in the electronic category.

Shoot, I knew the Truckers were on Letterman the other night, but didn’t realize they’d made history. Right on, y’all! And look at Mr. David Barbe doing a fine job with the band.

Reblogging this from somuchwater:

#119  Macha - Cat Wants To Be A Dog

Radio-friendly song from Athens, GA experimental band.  Macha blended post-punk with rhythms and instruments the members had discovered on trips to Indonesia in the early 1990’s.  Their début eponymous LP is well worth checking out.  It is amazing what a scene Athens had back in the 90’s.  All of the Elephant 6 bands, plus the embryonic Danger Mouse.  Not to even speak of the amazing acts that came out of the first post-punk era.  Feeling really nostalgic today.

I was a big fan of Macha back in the day. But happy most of the members have stuck around town — and love their current projects, Kai Riedl’s Our New Silence, and Josh McKay’s Abandon the Earth Mission.
