Merce Cunningham Dies - ArtsBeat Blog -... →
Via msannethrope: This is a loss, of course, but also a helluva testament to longevity and continued vitality. Merce, I salute you, even though your style of dance made my body hurt in places I didn’t know I had.

Just when you thought it was safe … giant squid... →
Via shorterexcerpts, fleetfootedfox, hangingfire: Giant squid are gathering off the San Diego coast. Really. The fact that this is happening the week before San Diego Comic-Con may be hilarious only to me. Worse, they’re aggressive bastard-coated bastard squid that actually aren’t scared of people…  See, this is why I hyperventilate when I’m in a body of water other than a bathtub or...

And speaking of Heather McIntosh (see post below), one of her many other bands, Japancakes, have created their first video (LOVE the makeup in this!) and the song also features the band’s first-ever vocal performance (Japancakes are a trippy, ambiant instrumental band who’ve been around Athens since the 1990s). Another former Athens resident Orenda Fink is providing the vocals (Fink...

Athens kids got Game
It’s the last day to donate to help out the new locally organized GameCamp! Athens. Here’s the lowdown: This is a children’s camp set to be launched this month at the University of Georgia (exclamation point is intentional, btw!). GameCamp! is part of a proven program in Texas and Louisiana that teaches participants about video game design, helping them gain 21st century skills...
