This just in:
R.E.M. will release a live digital EP, entitled Reckoning Songs From The Olympia, through iTunes and all digital service providers on July 7th, 2009.
The EP features live versions of four songs from the band’s beloved second album Reckoning that were recorded during R.E.M.’s “working rehearsals” at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre in July 2007. The...

The Omaha [by way of Athens]-based folk-pop duo Azure Ray was built around the tension between its two very different halves: the playful experimentation of Orenda Fink and the straight-to-the-heart melancholy of Maria Taylor. Ever since Azure Ray went on hiatus in 2004, Fink and Taylor have released solo records and side projects —...

It won’t be the first year I’ve thought — maybe they should just call it HotFest. But last night, despite yesterday’s hotness, there was a nice little breeze and it was downright comfortable.
I’m not sure what triggered it exactly, but I had a flashback moment, standing outside Little Kings, watching Supercluster play. It was to a party I went to in an old warehouse...
Creepy are playing an awesome couple of songs — another band I hadn’t seen, and their myspace song posts def don’t do them justice live.

Slush Fund, New West host party at Little Kings...
Athens has plenty to show on its outdoor main stages during the day, but the clubs tend to be relatively quiet till the evening hours. But this year, New West Records, which recently opened an Athens office, and Slush Fund Recordings are teaming up to host an afternoon showcase. Bands will take the stage from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at Little Kings on Saturday, in a daytime affair in the vein of the stuff...

Looks like Wilmot Greene’s got friends in lots of places — From the site:
The owner of The Laughing Skull Lounge (Marshall Chiles) is very close to the owner of The Georgia Theatre (Wilmot Greene). When Robert Schimmel had to cancel this weekend, Marshall decided to turn this coming weekend into a fundraiser for his buddy. Granted, Wil needs a lot more than what we will raise, but...

We were saddened to hear the loss of the Georgia Theatre in a fire Friday. The loss of this Athens landmark is enormous, but the Athens musical community is a family at heart and we want to help our own. In that vein, The Melting Point is hosting a benefit for the Georgia...
